By 1913 Mary Pickford was already one of the most famous film actresses in America.
One of the earliest known Mary Pickford magazine covers is Motography from August 23, 1913.
Motography was a trade publication and often featured performers earlier than fan magazines.
Most movie fan magazines were still in their infancy; many well-known fan magazines didn't start featuring stars prominently until 1914–1915.

There were numerous regional fan papers and trade publications in 1914–1915, and determining the absolute first cover of Charlie Chaplin's appearance would require comparing surviving issues from that period.
