2023's HOTTEST MOVIES • Thanks for all the high-ĥying memories, Maverick. We still can’t help falling in love with you, Elvis. But the turn of the calendar means that it’s oĦcially time to have a tizzy over a fresh slate of movies. And after three years of pandemic-induced stop-and-start productions and delayed releases, Hollywood is Ĥnally storming the gates with a slew of would-be blockbusters. “If 2022 was a transitional year for movies, then I think 2023 is going to mark a really strong recovery,” says Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst for Comscore, a company that measures and analyzes box-oĦce and small-screen numbers. “There are so many recognizable and interesting titles coming out at a steadier pace. You won’t see a drought or just one Ĥlm dominating.” Indeed, say hello again in a hurry to the likes of Indiana Jones, John Wick, the Ant-Man and the Wasp, Ethan Hunt and (Ĥngers crossed) Elle Woods — plus Willy Wonka and Barbie in a whole new hue. OUR MUSICAL PASTS • With the upcoming Grammys (Feb. 5 on CBS) and the death of Lisa Marie Presley, we’ve had music on our mind. For nine decades, Parade has celebrated the music of each era, and put the spotlight on musicians—from Elvis and Frank Sinatra (many times) to the Beatles and Glen Gampbell. (Feb. 17 on Apple TV+), a new 10-episode, half-hour dramedy. Crudup stars as Jack, a talented salesman, whose product just happens to be lunar timeshares. As he sells these trips to the moon, Jack’s faith in a brighter tomorrow inspires his coworkers and rejuvenates his desperate clientele, while threatening to leave him dangerously lost in the very dream that sustains him.
