Original 1950's British Horror Mag
"Screen Chills and Macabre Stories"
7 1/4" x 9 3/4", 42 Pages Plus Cover
"Screen Chills" is the holy grail of Horror magazine collectibles. It had a limited press run, and only around twenty copy are known to still exist. The magazine is a Horror movie fanzine which also includes several short stories, including "Them Ones" by Robert Bloch, the author of "Psycho".Since it is undated, there is controversy over whether this magazine was published before or after the first issue of "Famous Monsters of Filmland" in February 1958. The latest film mentioned in its "coming attractions" was released in 1957, but since several of the movies listed are American, the UK release dates might have been later.

One of the short stories is an adaptation of "I Was A Teenage Werewolf" which was released in June 1957 in the U.S. Unfortunately, IMDB does not have the UK date, although that might simply mean it was released simultaneously. For what it's worth, my own best guest is that "Screen Chills" was published in the Fall of 1957, before the first issue of FM.

This particular copy has a cover price of 2', unlike other copies I have seen that were priced at 1'6. Actually, all copies were printed with the 2' cover price, but the publisher decided to lower it for distribution and a 1'6 sticker was placed over the 2'. In this case, the sticker was either never glued on, or fell off over time. If so, I can see no discernible evidence that it was ever there.
